Pheasant Only Hunter - Don

Don is a traveling hunter that has seen the best and the less than best pheasant hunting the Association has to offer. His pictures add much value to show where to hunt. They do reflect some very experienced and skilled pheasant hunting dogs. His dogs perform well over a wider range of cover than most others. It has been our experience that the wealth of such dogs in pictures makes many hunters believe their dogs should do well on the same protective cover. All should agree that dog wild pheasant hunting skills will be as varied as the humans that hunt them.

Thin native grass. Late afternoon with pheasants seek to roost. A good time to get them to hold for point and hunter flush.

Late afternoon with pheasants seek to roost

The weeds seen are great protective cover for both pheasant and quail. The weeds are very tough for dog and hunter to move through. They are high, stiff and interlocking. This is the kind of filed to hunt when energy levels are high. It is not a last day of the trip typo cover. The dog is seen jumping up to get eyes on what are probably running pheasants.

point it is less than the ideal pheasant holding quality grass.

When native grass is low and thin enough to get a picture of a dog on point it is less than the ideal pheasant holding quality grass.

Pheasant hunting to that of quail is often with far less eyes on dog action.

Pheasant hunting to that of quail is often with far less eyes on dog action. It is always a pleasure to capture a fine looking pheasant point in a picture.

A great season.

One old time hunting buddy in Kansas.

No better proof of weak native grass quality for holding pheasants to point and hunter flush.
