Spent 5 days during the firearms season and saw tons of does and only one buck. Attached. I saw him the last hour, of the last day when it was 68F and winds of 30mph! 147 inches. After he dropped an even bigger buck came up behind him! Then I went back to the same property for doe season and killed two does the first 30 minutes of daylight with my .357 mag. Pretty epic for me. Seventeen-year member Dave.
It appears the affects of the blue tongue virus which spread across the Midwest eight to ten years ago is almost water under the bridge in the regions MAHA has land leased for hunting. Last week we renewed a large lease in Linn County Missouri. The landowner said the deer population has made a big come back and requested we harvest more doe during the 2018-19 season. This is encouraging news since the deer herd in Linn County was set back by the disease. Also, an additional 350 acres of CRP grass was planted last fall across our Linn County land which will enhance habitat for all species of wildlife.
While driving the roads and working the land this winter we have definitely seen an increase in the deer numbers almost everywhere.
