Henry County, Missouri Wetlands Food Plots

In preparation to plant feed for the ducks in Henry B and D, we drained all the pools except the slough in Unit B and the #1 pool in Unit D. It was getting dry, so this was a good opportunity to get some seed in the ground and dry up some dirt to work this summer.

TJ hand seeding Japanese millet at the Fisher’s Lake blind #4 area. This was a tough man’s project. Hat’s off to TJ for his effort. The lakebed has not been drained for many years and this is very healthy for the soil.

Also, drained and seeded the #2 wade-in area at Henry B.

Beavers have been an ongoing problem with the intake, drain, and drop log structure on the #3 wade-in area at Henry B. We finally got it drained as much as possible and TJ was able to make several passes with millet, but we are hoping for some volunteer millet to add to the menu of the food plot.

A nice stand of volunteer smartweed/millet in the #3 wade-in area at Henry D. Our plans are to mow some strips in mid-August. We have a good-sized drainage ditch that runs behind the levee on the east boundary blocked off and diverted into the lakebed, so let’s cross our fingers for some rain, but right now we are holding a fair amount of water on the east end of the lake.
